About LUS
Lund University Student Union Association (LUS) is an umbrella organisation for the nine student unions at Lund University. Through its member unions, LUS represents all students and doctoral students at Lund University. LUS works closely with its member unions in its daily work. This way, LUS ensures that it knows the opinions of Lund's students and is able to represent all students. LUS is also a democratic organisation where the student unions make the decisions and carry out the elections to LUS elected positions.
LUS strives to make the time spent studying at Lund University as good as possible for all students by working daily with different issues that affect students and offering the students' perspective on how the issues should be dealt with. LUS' tasks can be divided into three areas: student influence, ceremonial functions and student services.
Student Influence
LUS works actively with student influence by representing the students' views, especially towards Lund University, Lund municipality and the region of Skåne. To some extent, LUS also works with student influence nationally and internationally. This is done by LUS electing student representatives who represent LUS and the students at meetings with various bodies. The election of student representatives to different bodies is done annually. All students at Lund University have the right to apply to become a student representative for LUS and all member unions have the right to vote in the elections of student representatives. In addition to representation at meetings, LUS also issues opinions on referrals of relevance to students at Lund University, and publishes opinion articles and columns in the media.
Ceremonial Functions
LUS represents the students at academic ceremonies and other ceremonies at Lund University, and when the university receives official visits. The ceremonial work is mainly carried out by LUS Presidium and LUS Fanborg. The Fanborg is responsible for carrying the university's flags at academic ceremonies. LUS Presidium represents the students through speeches, presentations on student influence or in any other way that is relevant to the occasion. LUS ceremonial work has a long history and representation of students with flags and student caps is an important part of Lund University's ceremonial image.
Student Services
LUS provides a number of different forms of student services, both through LUS own organisation and through foundations for which LUS is a founder. LUS assists students with housing through BoPoolen and student rights through the Student Ombudsman. LUS also enriches students' study time through Lundakarnevalen and the newspaper Lundagård. Furthermore, LUS is the founder of the foundations Lund's Student Union's Outdoor Facility which provides students with an opportunity for outdoor recreation, Lund's Student Union's Credit Fund which grants extra student loans, Lund's Student Union's Daycare Centre for students' children and Folkuniversitetet in Lund which offers courses and education in a number of areas. The goal of LUS student services is to make the students' time at Lund University as good as possible.
