Politics
One of LUS main responsibilities is to lead student politics toward Lund University, Lund Municipality and Region Skåne. This is done through daily political work where LUS is represented by its student representatives at meetings with various bodies within the university, the municipality and the region. LUS also submits opinions on proposals of relevance to students at Lund University, and publishes opinion articles and columns in the press. More information about the work of LUS student representatives can be found on the page Student Representatives.
Formation of LUS Opinions
LUS represents the common opinion of Lund University's students in its political work. In order to know what the common opinion is, active anchoring work is required. LUS does this work with the help of the student unions at the university's various faculties and education levels. The student unions all have their own way of democratically discussing what their students think about a particular issue. LUS meets with representatives from all the unions once a week to discuss the common views of students on current issues. In urgent cases, the discussion can also take place via email between the weekly meetings. In this way, the person representing LUS in a political discussion can speak on behalf of all students at Lund University.
For issues that are discussed over a longer period of time and where the students' opinions remain the same for longer periods of time, LUS drafts political Position Statements together with the unions. In this way, the same issues do not have to be debated every week, instead it is possible to read what the students think.
